Privacy
Your photographs
stay yours.
People upload photographs of their families and of pets they have lost. That deserves a policy written to be read rather than to be scrolled past, so this one is in plain language. Four promises first, then the detail of what we hold and who touches it.
The promises
Four things that do not change
01
Your photographs are visible only to you
An upload is tied to your session and is not listed, browsed or shown anywhere else on the site. Nothing you make appears in a public gallery, in marketing, or in anyone else's session. Every example image on this site was made for the site, not taken from a customer.
02
Previews are deleted after 72 hours
Your uploaded photograph and any portrait you have not bought are removed automatically three days after they are created. This runs as a storage rule rather than a job someone has to remember to trigger, so it does not depend on us doing anything. There is no button to press and nothing to request.
03
Nothing you upload trains anything
Your photographs and the portraits made from them are never used as training data — not by us, and not by anyone we work with. This is the one line in this policy we would not change for any commercial reason, and it is why it is printed in the footer of every page rather than buried here.
04
Paid work is kept so you can reorder
If you buy a portrait, we keep the finished artwork and the order record so the piece can be reprinted, reordered at another size, or remade if it arrives damaged. The original photograph still follows the 72-hour rule. If you would rather we deleted the artwork too, ask and we will.
What we hold
Everything, listed
This is the complete list. There is no account system, no password to leak, and no profile being assembled about you across the web.
The photograph you upload
Why To make the portrait you asked for.
How long Deleted automatically after 72 hours, whether or not you order.
The portraits generated from it
Why So you can look at them, compare styles and edit them.
How long Deleted after 72 hours unless purchased. Purchased artwork is kept for reprints and reorders.
An anonymous visitor identifier
Why To count your free portraits for the day and show you your own work when you come back.
How long A random value in your browser. It is not a name, an email or an account, and it is not shared with anyone.
Your email address, if you order
Why To send the receipt, the shipping notice and any digital file you bought.
How long Kept with the order record. We do not sell it and we do not add you to a mailing list you did not ask for.
Your delivery address, if you order something physical
Why Because a canvas cannot be emailed.
How long Passed to the studio that makes and ships your order, and to the carrier. Nowhere else.
Basic, aggregated traffic data
Why To know which pages are used and which are broken.
How long Counts and totals rather than profiles. Not tied to your photographs.
Who else is involved
The services behind the site
We do not run our own data centre, our own card processing or our own printing presses, so a handful of companies necessarily handle parts of this. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job.
Cloudflare
Hosts the site, runs the code and stores uploads and artwork. Storage is where the 72-hour deletion rule is enforced. Traffic passes through their network, which is also what protects the site from abuse.
Payment providers
Handle checkout and card details. We never see or store your full card number — it goes directly to the payment provider, and what comes back to us is a confirmation and the last four digits on your receipt.
Print-on-demand studios
Receive the artwork file and your delivery address in order to make and ship your order. They receive nothing else — not your other portraits, not your uploaded photograph, not your payment details.
Email delivery
Sends receipts, shipping notices and download links. It carries your email address and the contents of those messages, and nothing more.
Some of these providers operate in countries other than your own — that is unavoidable when a site is reachable everywhere and printing happens in four regions. Where your order is produced, it is produced at the studio nearest you, which keeps that transfer as short as it can reasonably be.
Cookies
What is stored in your browser
A single anonymous identifier, so the site can count your free portraits for the day and show you your own work rather than a blank page when you return. There is no advertising cookie, no cross-site tracker and no third-party pixel following you off the site. Clearing your browser storage clears it, with the only consequence being that the site stops recognising work you made earlier.
Your rights
Asking us to act
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted — including the artwork from a completed order, if you would rather we did not keep it for reprints. Write to support@burnishedportraits.com and we will answer within 30 days, usually far sooner. There is no form and no fee.
One practical note on deletion: we have to keep basic order and payment records for as long as tax and accounting law in the relevant country requires. That is a transaction record — what was bought, when, for how much — and it does not include your photographs, which are gone after 72 hours regardless.
Children
Who this service is for
The service is intended for adults. Photographs of children are of course welcome — family portraits are a large part of what people order — but the person uploading them should be a parent or guardian, or should have their permission. Those photographs are covered by every promise on this page, including deletion after 72 hours.
Changes
If this policy changes
If we change something here, the updated page replaces this one and carries the date it changed. Anything that would weaken one of the four promises above would be a material change, and we would say so plainly rather than quietly revise a paragraph. Questions about any of it go to support@burnishedportraits.com.
Upload with that in mind
Private to you, deleted after three days, never used to train anything.
