stay yours.
People upload photographs of their families and of pets they have lost. That deserves a policy written to be read rather than to be scrolled past, so this one is in plain language. Four promises first, then the detail of what we hold and who touches it.

Your photographs stay private
Your uploads and portraits are not placed in a public gallery or shown to other customers. The services that create your portrait and authorised team members handling your order can access the files they need for that work. We do not use customer photographs in our marketing. Every example image on this site was made for the site.

Preview access lasts 72 hours
Your preview links expire after 72 hours. Temporary uploads and previews are subject to our storage expiry rules; artwork attached to an order is stored separately so checkout or fulfilment does not lose your chosen image. Generation providers may retain their copies for longer, as explained below.

We do not train models on your photographs
We do not use your uploads or finished portraits to train our own models. We send them to generation providers to create your requested portrait. Those providers have their own processing and retention policies, described below.

Paid work is kept so you can reorder
If you buy a portrait, we keep the finished artwork and the order record so the piece can be reprinted, reordered at another size, or remade if it arrives damaged. The original photograph still follows the 72-hour rule. If you would rather we deleted the artwork too, ask and we will.

You can make a preview without an account. If you sign in, your verified email lets you return to your orders and downloads. Optional advertising measurement is explained separately below.

An anonymous visitor identifier
Why To keep your portraits connected to your browser and show you your own work when you come back.
How long A random value in your browser. It is not a name, an email or an account, and it is not shared with anyone.
Your account and sign-in details
Why To let you sign in with Google or an email code and access orders belonging to your verified email address.
How long We store your verified email and sign-in security records. We do not ask for or store your Google password. Contact us to request account deletion; order records may need to be kept separately.
Your email address, if you order
Why To send the receipt, the shipping notice and any digital file you bought.
How long Kept with the order record. We do not sell it and we do not add you to a mailing list you did not ask for.
Your delivery address, if you order something physical
Why Because a canvas cannot be emailed.
How long Passed to our production and fulfilment partners, who are in China, and to the carrier that delivers it. Nowhere else.
Where your visit came from
Why To learn which pages, searches and campaigns bring people who go on to order, so we spend on what works.
How long Kept by us and not shared: the campaign labels in the link you followed, the name of the referring website, the page you arrived on, your device type, browser and country. We do not store advertising click identifiers or your IP address for this.
Optional analytics and advertising events
Why With your permission, to understand site use and whether advertising leads to a confirmed purchase.
How long Your consent choice is kept for up to 180 days. Enabled measurement providers process the events you allow under their own policies. These events do not contain your photographs or private artwork links.
Who else is involved
The services behind the site
We do not run our own data centre, our own card processing or our own printing presses, so a handful of companies necessarily handle parts of this. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job.
Portrait generation
Kie and its connected image model providers receive the photographs and instructions needed to generate or edit your portrait. Kie states that generated media is retained for 14 days and task logs for two months. These provider retention periods are separate from the 72-hour preview window on our site.
Cloudflare
Hosts the site, runs the code and stores uploads and artwork. Storage is where the 72-hour deletion rule is enforced. Traffic passes through their network, which is also what protects the site from abuse.
Payment providers
Handle checkout and card details. We never see or store your full card number — it goes directly to the payment provider, and what comes back to us is a confirmation and the last four digits on your receipt.
Production and fulfilment partners
Our own supply chain, in China. They receive the artwork file and your delivery address in order to make and ship your order, and nothing else — not your other portraits, not your uploaded photograph, not your payment details.
Email delivery
Sends receipts, shipping notices and download links. It carries your email address and the contents of those messages, and nothing more.
Some of these providers operate in countries other than your own, which is unavoidable when a site is reachable from everywhere. If you order something physical, your name and delivery address are sent to our production and fulfilment partners in China, because that is where the piece is made and where it ships from. There is no way to print and post a canvas without the address reaching the people who print and post it. Nothing else about you travels with it, and your uploaded photograph is not part of that transfer.
Cookies
What is stored in your browser
Essential storage keeps your own portraits, sign-in and order progress available when you return. Clearing it may sign you out or stop this browser recognising unfinished work.
Optional analytics and advertising measurement stay off until you choose to allow them. Analytics uses Google Analytics; when enabled for the site, advertising measurement may use Meta and TikTok to measure page visits, preview creation, checkout and confirmed purchases. These providers may receive device and network information as part of their requests. We do not include your photos, email, address, editing instructions or private portrait and order links in measurement events.
If you allow advertising measurement, we save advertising click identifiers in this browser to connect a later order with its visit. A click can be used for up to 90 days. Its record may remain to prevent an old click being counted again, until a new click replaces it or you withdraw advertising consent.
Use Privacy settings at the bottom of any page to accept, reject or withdraw optional measurement. Your choice is stored for up to 180 days. Withdrawal stops future optional events and removes the optional first-party cookies we can clear; it cannot recall data already sent. Essential site features remain available if you reject.
Your rights
Asking us to act
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted — including the artwork from a completed order, if you would rather we did not keep it for reprints. Write to support@burnishedportraits.com and we will answer within 30 days, usually far sooner. There is no form and no fee.
One practical note on deletion: we have to keep basic order and payment records for as long as tax and accounting law in the relevant country requires. That is a transaction record — what was bought, when, for how much — and it does not include your temporary preview access, which expires after 72 hours.
Children
Who this service is for
The service is intended for adults. Photographs of children are of course welcome — family portraits are a large part of what people order — but the person uploading them should be a parent or guardian, or should have their permission. Those photographs are covered by the same access and retention rules described on this page.
Changes
If this policy changes
If we change something here, the updated page replaces this one and carries the date it changed. Anything that would weaken one of the four promises above would be a material change, and we would say so plainly rather than quietly revise a paragraph.
